There is noise/static on the line
When I go to call someone i keep hearing static on the line.
Check for interference from appliances (microwave ovens, TV's etc.). or wireless devices (baby monitors, WiFi equipment, etc.). Move the handset or base away from the interference source.
If you use a telecoil hearing aid, turn on T-coil mode in the Handset Setup menu. T-coil mode shortens talk time, so keep your battery fully charged.

If all of your handsets have static then its likely your phone line has a problem.
You should call your phone service provider to check the lighting arrestors and your phone lines grounding. Often the arrestors wear-out and your grounding rod and/or power line ground connection is not good. In some cases the grounding is though your waterline (copper line). Corrosion can effect the effectiveness of the ground.
