Recommended hybrid 7200 rpm 500 gb HDD?

Dear All,

Current drive: Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500 GB 7200RPM SATA 16 MB Cache 2.5-Inch Bare Drive - ST9500420ASG http://tinyurl.com/m6kpgm7

I am considering upgrading to a 7200 rpm hybrid drive, as I am hoping that this will make my computer faster. I found the Seagate Momentus XT 500 gb 7200 rpm hybrid drive, but the reviews seem poor (see, e.g., http://tinyurl.com/od7fp7r). Is there another 7200 rpm ~500 gb hybrid hard drive that you would recommend?

#1. the price difference between the 1TB & 500 GIG is usually under $20.

#2. User reviews are like a*s holes, everyones got one.

#3. I've installed over two dozen of the Seagate SSHD drives with no problems and no failures.

#4. Replace the hard drive/IR cable as they are know to be faulty and destroy drives.

put pads on the top level of the place where the cable goes over the top to prevent damage from the bottom cover hitting the cable.

Thank you so much for your comments. A few questions:

#1 As far as I can tell, many of the 1 TB hybrid drives are actually 5400 rpm and not 7200 rpm (see, e.g., http://tinyurl.com/ofcqq69). Would a hybrid 5400 rpm be faster than my current non-hybrid 7200 rpm drive?

#3 Do you mean that you have installed dozens of the Momentus XT drives with no problems and no failures? Thank you!!!

The 8GB of SSD Ram on the 1 TB is where your speed comes from. I believe the 500 drive only has half of that. Anyway the most used programs and the operating system will end up on the SSD after a couple days of use. Thus negating the need for a higher RPM drive. I used to use the XT drives before the SSHD drives came out.
