Can you tell my what the small metal piece (looks like it makes contact with the case) is on the top side of the daughter board right between the power button and the small rear camera. Is it a ground for the power button? When I opened the phone I found it was broken off.

After a better examination it seems this metal contact mentioned only makes contact with the top of the rear housing of the phone. I would assume it's a part of the grounding or power system, because this contact ties in with other areas of the back housing that other contacts on the daughter board make to the back housing.
I am wondering if it ties in with the power button somehow (the contact resides right beside the power button).
I have come to this conclusion because the phone's charge led lights up and stays solid orange while charging like it is supposed to, and I have checked my battery with a voltage meter and it works but no matter what way I try to power the phone up (power button only, power + up volume, power + down volume, power + up and down volume) the phone never turns on.

The battery was faulty. Would not hold a charge of more than 3v. The phone will power up with a different battery. So the contact is probably not involved with the power button, but possibly the NFC controller, cameras, or ir blaster? Still not sure but I will replace the daughter board. I accidently got the PCB to hot when trying to solder on a contact. Oops but you gotta learn somehow.
I have not replaced the daughter board. Everything works but NFC. So the contact is likely tied in with only the NFC controller.
