MBP's 3TR Airport card in 2TR MBA. Which antenna should I add?

Hi.

I just swapped Airport card on my MBA, from original MacBook Air 2013 2 antenna 11ac to MacBook Pro Retina 2014 3 antenna 11ac.

It has different length(MBP's are longer) but fit enough to work. Actually it works. And I made just-work-anyway-but-cannot-install-inside-laptop-cause-it-is-1-feet-size iron wire antenna, 1 inch far from router, it shows 1.3Gbps. Test done.

Problem is, MBA has only 2 inside antenna. So I have to make or buy third antenna, which small and thin enough to install.

Does anybody did this job with good antenna rate? What antenna should I use? Is there general products? Or should I make DIY?

Basically it really can't be done.

The first problem is where are you putting the antenna? You can't fix it within the main body as the case acts like a Faraday cage blocking the signal.

So your only option here is to put it into the lid assembly. But now you have a problem as the lid is very difficult to open with out damaging it and you still need a way to snake the antenna cable though and find a place to mount the antenna.

The bottom-line here this is too big a nut to crack. Which is why people don't try upgrading it.

Thank you.

I don't know about Faraday cage effect actually do and/or how affects in this particular situation, but change to 3TR DID not gave any advantage in my case.

Lower bandwidth than 2TR. Test end.

The metal case act as a shield so if you tried to place the antenna within the case it won't be effective (basically, within a faraday cage).
