i got my netbook as a gift but theres no wireless card on the device hence my question,,,tenx

The usefulness of your system will be diminished without a working WiFi board. For now you'll only have the option of plugging into a network to get onto the internet (assuming you have access to a Ethernet connection).
WiFi allows you go on the move to coffee houses like Starbucks to surf the net.
