MacBook must remained connected to the AC to operate

Hi. I have a MacBook Pro 17" 2.33 GHz Intel.

Though the battery is charged, the Macbook must be connected to the AC at all times. Or, it will immediately shut off.

Any ideas what the issue could be?

The battery is quite new. And the original did swell up in the compartment. I recall the laptop was able to operate off the battery for a time before this issue developed.

Most likely your SMC needs to be reset. Follow this Apple TN: Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC).

See if that fixes it.
