I have a universal Drive adapter and a 1T SSD Hyybrid 2.5" Hard Drive.
My questions is, can I Format this new Hard Drive and transfer data from Time Machine, before replacing the old Hard Drive?
Just trying to get it working before I take the Mac apart.

Yes! You can prep the drive externally and you can even switch the drive to be the boot up drive to make sure its all working before opening your system.
