Water Damage; System Working, but very Slow; No Backlight on Display

MacBook Pro got water damaged, the water entered from backside (joint of display and top case/system case).

The video is here: http://youtu.be/R0Uz6s8WRYo

The backlight stopped working, the system got very slow, but it is working. fan kicks in at the start up. The Apple Hardware Test shows an error of 4SNS/1/C0000008: Th1H-- 129. When googled it shows some issue with heat sink. When starting in safe boot, the screen goes black and it renders back to screen with line by line from bottom to top, this happens at intervals of 5-10 seconds. Was able to access HD from Single User Mode. About This Mac shows NVIDIA Graphic Card is running instead of Intel HD one, no High Performance Applications Running.

I had a similar problem with my macbook after a water spill. Backlight not working and the macbook was very slow. I tried booting the macbook without the flexcable that goes from the I/O board to the logicboard and without that cable the backlight did work, but the macbook was still very slow. First I cleaned the whole logicboard with alcohol. Then I bought a new flex cable and replaced the I/O board, and now it works perfect again. I hope this might help you.

Cleaning after a liquid spill is almost a must. Movies have given the public the incorrect impression that a bag of uncooked rice will repair wet devices. Pulling the battery and using a bag of uncooked rice (if nothing else is available) is better than using a hair dryer, or doing nothing... but it's not a magic bullet.

If you have looked at the advice about repairing liquid damage you'll see that you, and a mark one eyeball are the DIY way to diagnose liquid damage to parts on the logic board.

My advice to you is to stop using the machine unit it is repaired, you'll only do further damage.

You can (if able) open the box, clean and inspect the unit, and seek help to repair/replace damaged components on the logic board. Generally logic board repair is beyond most DIY amateurs it requires special tools, solder, and lots and lots of practice so you don't destroy the MLB with too much heat. A local small electronics/computer repair shop may be able to do the component repair/replacement for you. Not every step of a DIY repair has to be done by you.

Even taking out and replacing the logic board is a ver advanced DIY project - you're basically completely dissembling then reassembling the machine. There are services on eBay that will repair a damaged board, or, you may purchase a known good board and use it instead. The one advantage to replacing the entire board is that if you do not already own the most advanced version of your model you can upgrade to the best board.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

Thank-you, I want some more advice, currently I'm having this apple warranty (1yr) and it will expire today. Should I get the MacBook repaired from Apple Service Provider and pay them whatever they ask for and extend my Warranty using Apple Protection Plan or should I get it done from outside, but if i get repaired from outside then I think there might be a chance that my warranty will be get void.

Another thing is that after the diagnose and Inspection from Apple Service Centre, they are asking me to replace the Logic Board and the Top Case of MacBook Pro, which I doubt whether there is a problem with the Top Case and Logic Board or not, I thought I need to get the Display changed.

Apple does not warranty (cover) any sort of liquid damage. An estimate from them would give you an idea how bad the damage is, and the option of trying to DIY. (cost/value assessment) If you can read and follow directions you may be able to DIY repair the unit... I would not recommend any DIY soldering of components (but you may do all the diss/reassembly and have professionals do soldering/replacements of parts. Some folks swear by warranties, others swear at them. I myself do take Apple Care Warranties on the devices I buy.
