Can you give us the model number as there are a few different versions.

it is the Transformer Book T 100

I know that this is an extremely old post, but for those with a similar question the answer is this: the T100 Transformer Book uses an eMMC flash which is embedded into the logic board, thus non-upgradable. However, if you have a keyboard dock with a hard disk, that drive can be replaced with a SSD. I've replaced the 2.5" 500GB hard disk with a Samsung 1TB 850 EVO with no issues.

Hi I just wonder how do you extend the c drive which is 64 gb only to the keyboard dock hard disk? as my c drive is full with only program files and i still to install some programs for research purposes

Shi Min Chua, my keyboard dock came with a 500 GB hard disk from Seagate. There are some versions that only has the keyboard that the T100 connects to.

Hardware-wise, if you have the keyboard dock with the hard disk, you just need to remove the Phillips 0 screws from the bottom/underside of the keyboard and gently pry the lid. The cavity for the hard disk is in the top-middle portion and is user-replaceable.

Software-wise: In Windows 10, I adjusted the default locations of where new applications (as well as new videos, photos, etc.) to the keyboard drive (in my case, a Samsung SSD). Only caveats really is that (1) the keyboard is effectively permanent -- no tablet mode; and (2) the SSD's performance is bottlenecked by the USB interconnect between the keyboard dock and the tablet. Otherwise, it's a perfectly capable netbook.

Sadly no,

Here is your systems specs: ASUS Transformer Book T100TA

Note the Storage listing offers two sizes 32GB eMMC & 64GB eMMC which is what you can buy as separate models.

Now lets dig a little deeper here:

What is eMMC? Here's a writeup that explains what it is: What is eMMC. The key piece of information here is the eMMC is a soldered on module which can't be user replaced as its part of the logic board similar to how Apple's iPad works as a closed system.

Actually it is not, I have the same device myself. It does not actually have a SSD, it has an eMMC storage (for ex- http://www.sandisk.in/products/embedded/... ) the kind that you find in smartphones and regular tablets. The eMMC is soldered onto the motherboard. So unless you have access to spare eMMC and you know how to solder it to the board i don't think its possible.......

Well first answer is completely wrong. Someone should had read the question better.

The ssd can be replaced. Search youtube, they have a video of the process. Keep in mind, this will void your warranty and you won't have a viable os when you come out on the other side of the upgrade.

No, Both memory & storage are soldered on this model. Remember ASUS makes many different devices. This is a tablet not a PC.

@Dan I am well aware it's a tablet, I own one. I HAVE done the upgrade from HDD to SSD. I am currently running Windows 10 Enterprise evaluation 32bit on it.

I believe you are both right (sort of), Asus makes two versions of the T100TA also, one has 64GB eMMC Storage in the tablet and that's the only storage it comes with, the other version has 64GB eMMC Storage in the tablet and an additional hard drive in the keyboard dock. I think the HDD that you replaced would be the one in the keyboard dock which is possible, but its only accessible when you have it docked in the keyboard, the onboard storage built into the tablet itself isn't replaceable.

@Marc- we are talking about the eMMC here, located in the tablet part, not the HDD located in the keyboard part.

Yea, mark. Calm down.

Yes, you can upgrade the hard drive. Even though Acronis True Image Home Edition 2014 says that it supports windows 8, 8.1, it only supports backing up your data but not hard drive cloning.

Note: All the ASUS Transformers have the same thing in common. The Tablet portion holds all of the hardware. With this being said, if you want to upgrade the memory, now is the time to do it.

1st: Use Acronis TIH 2014 Edition to create your data backup onto a larger flash drive, not the one you'll be using with the OS if it's on a USB flash drive. Next, open up the tablet by removing the screen bezel & removing all the screws. [You Tube the "How To" disassemble video [your version/model number.] Once you have the lid removed, remove the hard drive for the upgrade. Also the memory too if it only has 1gb of rm

2nd: Have you Windows 8 Operating System Disc, or call ASUS Tech Support to see if they will email you with the windows OS downloadable version so you can put it on a flash drive. At any rate, which ever version you can get, the BIOS will see that you're using the correct OS on Disc or Flash Drive. Once you have windows installed, use your data backup to reinstall the data since you get things like office home & student. The hard drive should be around $37.99-$59.99 but remember, if you have it open, see if you can find the 256gb hard drive since the solid state drives all use about the same wattage which should match the battery life. I've been getting 256gb SSD's for under $79.00. I am going to use the 256 SSD's because of the resale value

Please note: If you can only use an operating system disc, make sure to have a usb external optical drive.

Now if you have 2 different BIOS Settings, use the open version if you would like to try windows 7. I'll be upgrading 2 of these tablet/notebooks with larger hard drives because the original price of these little guys are pretty expensive, installing large hard drive will bring in a lot more money.

Now about the Transformers, yes there are 2 different models. The older models can't be upgraded but like the other posts, if you can upgrade the hard drive to a SSD then you're all set. It just takes a while to get it completed. Enjoy & do it because the 32gb or 64gb models need to be changed since there's not enough room to do what you should be able to do.

The reasons I purchased the ASUS Transformers is because I am not going to buy a Surface with a $500 price tag when you can buy 2-4 depending if they're refurbished or NIB...

It uses the Z3740 CPU, the older one which can address up to 4Gb of ram rather then the Z3735E, which only goes to 1Gb, The clock speed of the '40 CPU is also faster, as is the graphics proc. speed rating is 20MHz higher. Also the '40 CPU is almost double the price, as a standalone chip! It has at least a dozen more features built in which were removed from the '35E newer version, go verify all this on Intel's site!

Now, assuming you are looking to UP the ssd disk storage, why not use an external USB-connected SSD drive mounted as "D:"? Simple! As for modding the board, I worked in electronics under a microscope soldering stuff in labs for many years, that Youtube MBoard mod interests me, not NECESSARY for the layman though. Asus recommends an external 500Gb HDD for this right on the spec sheet! Later...

You also MUST remember too that there are TWO different types of memory we deal with now: The ram that emulates a disk AND the ram that is as usual... addressable ram for the CPU's. The idea of giving each of the 4 cores a gig of ram each made sense, but these little ##&&%#@ limit that to a half gig each off the shelf.. ANY Mboard mod should be expanding RAM, not SSD RAM, SSD storage can be gained externally with a simple thumb drive.

PLUS, when you upgrade the OS on these to Windows 10, you do it by booting off a thumb drive and loading the SSD memory with a new OS after a format (as forced by whomever gave you the thumb drive-loaded upgrade) is done, thus losing ALL your collected data/sound/video/games/etc. If you are playing with these things and are NOT doing at least a CD backup thru the USB port on occasion, you're %#*@ foolish!

Yes and no. eMMC is soldered down and is a BPGA IC, solder pads not visible under the IC. They're easy to remove if you've done it before AND you don't care to possibly knock other parts off the board....AND the board in the tablet is coated, meaning if you heat the entire board to resolder/reflow or remove an IC, it will SMOKE LIKE ITS ON FIRE. Not only the BPGA issue exists but the UEFI issue exists where if you remove the 1 or 2 32 GB eMMC's on the board, you lose your Windows key because it is stored on it. Is it worth it? I've been looking at the board and trying to find an open place to hack in a USB drive under the case to use as storage, perhaps a 128 or 256GB drive D...

Putting a tiny USB drive inside the case is a better option in my opinion. OS on the main 32/64 and everything else on the internal USB should it be ever located.

I added a 128gb card to my T100 (I have the early version from about 2 years ago i bought it).

It worked well-ish at first. Dropbox cant be run off it, so if i keep my dropbox files on it, then it doesnt work the same as when they are on the hard drive.

So instead i moved about 35gb of music onto it, but then every now and then Window media player couldnt play anything and i had to un plug and replug and re-locate the micro sd card for it to find them. Found that tedious, so i switched to VLC player instead but also got a problem with the tunes on the card so i gave up.

Also if things are stored on the micro SD then the search box on the laptop doesnt pick up on those files, which is a bit of a pain in the ****.

Im really happy the 4gb is out and although my files are less than 64gb, im concerned that windows and all the other crap is gonna take up loads of space and I also heard if you use up all your hard drive space, your laptop wont run well at all. Not sure if that applies to Solid state drives too though.
