Port/Mother board is corroded, can I repair this to salvage my phone?

My Galaxy S III stopped working. It would not acknowledge being plugged in beyond flashing a quick "charging" picture, though never charging or lighting up in the corner. I placed a fully charged battery in the phone and beyond flashing "samsung" across the screen it would not turn on. I took it into Sprint and they showed my that the port on the mother board was corroded and that this would need to be replaced. Prior to ordering a new motherboard, which my husband would be able to do the technical work to replace it, I was wondering if it is possible to clean the corrosion and still salvage my current phone?

You could clean the corrosion off the motherboard by using a tooth brush and isopropyl alcohol but by the look of the damage it's probably best just to replace the charging block as there isn't much damage on the actual motherboard only the part.
