Hello,
This section of iFixit focuses on the W123 chassis (E-class) that Mercedes produced from 1977-1985. That is what I have, and what I am familiar with at this time.
Your car is a R107 chassis (SL-class), and so I don't have a good answer right off hand for your question.
Here is a link to the wikipedia page that has more information on your chassis to help familiarize you with that particular run of Mercedes automobiles.

You might have some luck getting assistance if you were to ask your question over on the R107 section on the BenzWorld forums. There are many other owners of these cars there who may be able to chime in. While you're there, encourage them to start a R/C107 page here on iFixit for some guides for that chassis :)
