iPod touch 4g replacement screen seems a bit too thick

I ordered and received a replacement screen for an iPod touch 4g from iFixit. During the final phase of assembly with the new screen, it seems the replacement screen from iFixit is just a shade too thick, and will not seat properly on the iPod. Has anybody else experienced this? During the final phase of re-assembly, pressing on either end of the display to seat it would result in the other end lifting off the iPod. I did not attempt to force the screen into place as I did not want to risk damaging the new screen. It almost seems as though the light diffuser (or whatever the rubbery pad is stuck to the rear of the display glass) is too large, and I'm curious if peeling this off and using the original in its place might be considered a workable solution. Has anybody else experienced this, if were you able to work past it, and if so what did you have to do?

I'll have to procure a caliper to display a measurable (if not visible) difference as it will be difficult to illustrate from a simple side-by-side picture. I can say that laying the two screens next to each other on a flat surface, the new screen does feel materially thicker than the original -- this even despite there being packing tape stuck to the front of the broken screen (done in an effort to keep the shards of glass together during disassembly).

I will see about posting such info as soon as I am able.

I was not able to obtain a proper caliper to measure the thickness difference between the two screen assemblies, but setting the two side-by-side on a flat surface and laying a straight edge across the faces of them I can see light beneath the edge on the side of the original. It's not a lot, maybe only about 1/64th of an inch, but there is a difference. After a few attempts at disassembly and reassembly (to make sure I did everything right) and the screen still refusing to seat properly, I have come to the realization that this iPod cannot be fixed properly. I will just be ordering a replacement iPod in its place.

I figured it out. There is a necessary detail during re-assembly that seems to be glossed over in nearly all the repair instructions I looked over: The longer of the two screen cables needs to be fold back on itself twice -- not once -- or it gets under the thicker part of the screen and creates the illusion that the screen at that end is too thick to fit properly. Once I figured this detail out (by carefully comparing the broken screen bits to the replacement) I was able to get the new screen installed. I guess that 1/64th of an inch didn't make any difference in the end anyway.

People replacing this iPod screen need to pay attention to how the longer of the two screen connector cables are folded when re-attaching the new screen to the iPod. If it is only folded once, it gets under the light deflector and makes the screen seem too thick to seat properly. If it's folded back on itself twice to stay up behind the header area of the iPod, the replacement screen will fit fine.

This is critical!! Unfortunately when I fixed this error, I closed the glass back on the bezel, only to forget to connect the LCD to the main board. Then, I cracked the LCD when I tried to fix that! :(
