water damage caused screen to go black
my phone still works, but the screen has gone black since spilling a small cup of water on it. sound, text and rings all work and am able to have a phone conversation

VERONIKA K, as with any fluid immersion time is vital to prevent corrosion. Rice will not help you. It does not prevent corrosion and will not repair your phone. Use these guides to disassemble your phone. Use some sterile water and rinse all the part. Use 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and a small brush and clean every part, including the ribbon cables as well as the connector. Pay particular attention to the LCD connector. Check for any missing, burned or charred components. Once it is properly cleaned, let it dry. Then reassemble your phone, and it is possible that you have a shorted backlight circuit. If you are handy with a multimeter, we can give you some testing points where you could check the voltage to see if you have power to the LCD. So you may have to start with a new display assembly.

Where would these test points be located? I am currently working on a device with similar issues. Phone will boot after water damage treatment (isopropyl and ultrasonic) but nothing on the screen. The board components on the screen side under the LCD/digitizer connector looked really rough before the treatment.
I did all of this and the display came back on, but then it flashed green and shut back off. At this point it will not come back on. I do know how to use a multimeter if you have further instruction and one is required.

You might be screwed and have to buy a new display or cable, but try first a bag raw rice for a day or so, if that doesn't work I've founded opening it up, cleaning with ethanol, and drying carefully does the trick.

I have the same problem. Took everything apart, and washed it with isopropanol still the display won't work. I can connect it via mini usb to a screen and use my phone but the display is dark. I've scrubbed all of the insides gently with a brush and alcohol but nothing. I've also tried applying heat. Any advice?
RICE DOES NOT WORK! Granted it will suck the water out of the phone but will not stop the corrosion of the phone parts.
