will not charge without being plugged into charger
My macbook shuts down on full charge unless it is plugged into the charger. So unless my mac is in the process of being charged (even with a full battery) it will turn off completely.
If it is the original battery it needs to be replaced. Even if it's not the original battery, depending upon its' use/abuse it still might need to be replaced.
Check the battery status under System Information: (profiler) power and see what it's status is.
