How do I create a boot CD for AST Bravo MS-T Pro 6180?

I have this old AST Bravo PC that I believe has Windows 98 on it. Last time I turned it on, it was working OK, but now the boot process is screwed up so the computer won't boot. I need to know how/where to get the disk image so I can burn a bootable CD and hopefully get this old PC working again. The computer does have a floppy drive, but I don't have a working-internet connected computer with a floppy drive available, otherwise I would make a bootable floppy since it seems that that is the most popular way to do it. I need a way to create bootable CD with the disk image for fixing the boot process. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

David

P.S. If pictures or specs would help, I can get some!

Also, if there happens to be another place for this question that I haven't seen, let me know and I will put it there instead.

Do you mean take the memory out and put it back in and see if it does anything? I clocked the beep, but I couldn't really get any patterns; the beeps lasts something like 45 sec and it repeated that like three times and then there was no beep, it just sat there running (at the time I didn't have the screen hooked up to it so I don't know if it did something different after the beeps stopped)

David, first you have to make sure that the AST Bravo PC BIOS allows you to set it to boot from CD. then you could download a ISO of Windows 98 Boot CD from here. the other site that I get some Bootdisk from is right here. You will also find some great instructions on here. Any of these will just get you to boot up and may repair your OS, but they will not reinstall your OS, These are not copyrighted files. Hope this helps, good luck.

Well, that makes sense on setting the BIOS to allow the computer to boot from the CD drive, but I have a problem. When I start it up, there is no display signal whatsoever, so unless there is a way to do it blindly, I'm kind of stuck. Also, I now have an .iso boot image, but am currently waiting to get a blank CD to burn it to. Any ideas on how to get a display signal?

Thanks for the help,

David

David, what do you see when you first start your computer up? Anything on the display? Just before I forget the url, download teh BIOS files from herehttp://www.sandyflat.net/digerati/ast486... you may need those later on, just in case there are some BIOS issues

When I press the good old satisfying click power button, the drive spools up, the fans come on, etc. The strange part is after about two seconds of being on, a continual tone from the system speaker comes on and stops and comes on about every 30 seconds, and all the while the display shows nothing, the display itself goes into power saving mode(power button on the screen turns orange) because there is no signal. The graphics are provided through a standard PCI card, as there seems to be no integrated graphics. I thought the problem was the graphics card, but then a family member listened to the boot process and immediately knew that continuous tone meant that the boot process was messed up. That's how I got to where I am right now. Thanks for the link to the files. Is the file for my model what I need to burn to a disk to boot from? Or is that for something else?

Thanks again, I really appreciate the help,

David

Also, I know the graphics card should work because I used it in another computer for a while without any problems.

What is the pattern of the beep's during boot up? Remove your memory, or replace it with some know working ones......
