Washer fills with water, doesn't agitate but will spin out water?

Whirlpool Ultimate Care 2 Model

After the washer fills with water the washer begins to hums loudly. The washer then begins to smell as if something is getting hot. The only function that really works after this point is if the washer is turned to the spin out cycle. The washer can spin out all of the water.

What is wrong and can I fix it? Thank you in advance for any help.

whirlpool 1cwtw4740yq spins but will not agitate.

This washer is only 1 1/2 y/o. The first one only lasted 6months. I am an American that lives in Belize now. I think this washer is junk! I recently opened it up and the 'teeth' in the unit are all fine. I reassembled it and tightened some more. Sounds like a switch is not allowing it to engage. Your thoughts please.

I've got a similar problem, but a much older Amani washing machine (model: DLW330RAW).

I've had it for more than to 10 years with 0 service, moving it from apartment to apartment to my house after we bought one.

at first It seemed to do nothing once it hit agitation. I may not have waited long enough for it to hit the spin cycle. Later after plugging it back in, the spin cycle worked but the agitation still didn't.

My bet would be the agitator kit

Agitator Repair Kit

If the washer won't agitate this agitator repair kit may solve the problem. The kit contains the components that wear out over time. This is a relatively easy repair.

Drive Block or Bell

If the washer won't agitate the drive block or bell might be worn out or broken. The drive block connects the washer transmission to the agitator, if it's worn out the transmission shaft will still move back and forth but the agitator will either stay still or move slightly.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly

If the washer won't agitate the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door or Lid Latch Assembly

If the washer won't agitate the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Motor Coupling

If the washer won't agitate the motor coupling might have failed. The motor coupling connects the motor to the washer transmission. It is designed to fail if the washer is overloaded in order to protect both the motor and transmission.

Drive Belt

If the washer won't agitate the drive belt might have worn out. Over time the drive belt will fail just from normal use . Replace the belt every two or three years depending on how much the washer is used.

Motor Control Board

If the washer won't agitate the motor control board might be defective. The motor control board provides power to the motor as well as direction and force. If the motor control board is defective the washer may not work at all or function properly.

U-Joint Kit

If the washer is won't agitate the U-Joint may have failed. This is the primary drive mechanism for the agitation motion in this washer. Although this is not a very difficult repair for a DIY'er with some experience, the part is expensive and so it may be worth considering a new washer.

Drive Motor

If the washer won't agitate the drive motor might be defective. This is not common. Check all of the other related parts to this symptom before replacing the motor. If the motor is visibly burned out or physically damaged it will have to be replaced.

Enter your model number to see parts for your washing machine.

Stator Assembly

If the washer won't agitate the stator assembly at the back of the washer tub might be bad or damaged. The rotor is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the rotor fails or is damaged the washer might not spin or agitate. Check the rotor for damaged magnets or other defects.

You seem to have been thorough with possible causes seems almost like most parts of the machine are in your answer, would the fact it can spin eliminate a certain number of these possibilities?

Was there an answer to Angela Gray's question?

The more specific the symptoms are the better diagnosis can be made. On one like this it's best to start a new question. Think of going to the doctor and just telling him, "I feel sick" and expecting a diagnosis.

Im having similar dramas, the barrel doesntnseem to agitate on the wash cycle but it does spin on the rinse cycle

I think it's a error code table, if you look behind the plate above your washer remove it and you will find the spec. Let me know how you turn out. I have the same problem. Steve, polar52sw@gmail.com

I had this problem.

It turned out to be the motor coupling, but in a WEIRD way.

One end of it (the transmission end) was stripped almost clean of the indentation that makes it "catch" on the transmission. Unpleasantly, the transmission shaft is also partly damaged, which must have contributed the the problem. Presumably, going on way (spinning), it still caught enough (being forced into that direction) to work, but on the agitate cycle, it just spun in air, stripping it some more.

It certainly "felt" like it was the transmission, but it's not. It's actually a $5 motor coupling.

Being Xmas day, and parts stores not being open, I removed the motor coupling and turned it around, putting the damaged end on the motor, and the "pristine" end on the transmission. That looks like it'll "buy" me a few more washes until I get another coupling.

I expect that in another couple of years, the transmission shaft will have stripped clean, which will be another interesting problem. Maybe a friend with welding equipment will be able to deposit a bit of extra steel on it, and I'll manage to file it back down to the right shape. But that's next year's problem.

My Amana washer fills with water starts washing then stops. But when wash cycle should be done it goes through rinse and spin as normal.

I have the same problem.

After it fills it goes into wash mode...however my machine will not twist and turn. It will calculate that it is doing it and proceed to the rinse and then spin cycles with no problems.

I need help TY

Our Amana has the exact same problem. Fills with water agitates briefly and then sits for the duration of the agitation cycle and then goes into what appears to a normal drain, spin and rinse. It seems to be electrical since we can not hear it trying to agitate, no motor running, just quiet The lid lock seems to be clicking normally, at least at the latch.
