Replace with A1225 2008 logic board 820-2301-A

I have a 2008 24" iMac with EMC2211

Reboots randomly.

Most of the time stuck in boot loop (cd-rom sound first, then no post, 5 seconds, then cd-rom sound, no post, 5 seconds, then cd-rom sound, no post, etc). - Type "A" boot loop

Sometimes stuck in boot loop (starting sound, bootup screen, reset, starting sound, bootup screen, reset, etc) - type "B" boot loop

Attempted all the "usual" resets, unplugging the power cord, replugging. This will usually make it go past the type "A" boot loop, but causes type "B" boot loop.

Trying the keyboard shortcut reset (command/option/fn key? or whichever keys they were) doesn't achieve anything.

Tried installation disk, but iMac took forever to try load the disk, and in the mean time, reset and got stuck in type "A" boot loop.

MacStore said logicboard needs to be replaced.

Can I replace the logic board of the 2211 with this:

A1225 2008 logic board 820-2301-A?

Thanks!

Ameel, trying to help you figuring this out. Your computer is the EMC 2211, right? That would make it either a 2.8GHz or 3.06GHz with the following general specs:"

2.8 GHz Core 2 Duo (E8235)

Intro Date: April 28, 2008 Disc Date: March 3, 2009

Order No: MB325LL/A Model No: A1225 (EMC 2211)

Subfamily: Early 2008 Model ID: iMac8,1

Std RAM: 2 GB Std VRAM: 256 MB

Std Storage: 320 GB (7200 RPM) Std Optical: 8X DL "SuperDrive".

The logic board you can get is a 820-2301-A, correct?

661-4666 2.8GHz which is the 820-2110 iMac 24" 2.8GHz Core 2 Duo (A1225) - Mid 2008

661-4667 3.06GHz which is the 820-2301-A iMac 24" 3.06GHz Core 2 Duo (A1225) - Mid 2008

So, it does look like it is just the processor that is different. Same model, same year, so yes, there is no reason why it should not fit. Hope this helps, good luck.

If you mean move from the 2.08Ghz to the 3.06Ghz version yes. As long as you stay in the same model year the logic boards are just variations, or customizations of the base board.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

Thanks for your reply machead3.

What i meant to ask was whether the logic board that I intend to buy, i.e. the A1225 2008 logic board 820-2301-A, will be compatible with the imac 24" with EMC 2211. I don't really care about the particular CPU.

The logic board I intend to buy is fitted with a 3.06Ghz cpu, which is fine either way, but will the logic board be compatible with the iMac itself?

Using your terms, my rephrased question is:

is the A1225 2008 logic board 820-2301-A "in the model year" with my Imac (EMC 2211) and therefore compatible?

Manufacturing date of my Imac reads 2008.

This is not iFixit customer support… this is the DIY help forum… I think you should use the link at the bottom of the page and contact iFixit directly.

Yes, and my question relates to DIY, as I intend to purchase a board and replace the logic board myself. Just want to clarify that the board is compatible.

Customer support help on the other hand would charge me a ridiculous amount to put the board in for me.

Regardless, thank you for your input!
