MacBook Pro 13" LCD replacement went bad..

Found some dark spots at the bottom of the screen.

I ordered and installed a new LCD following to the instructions manual. However the new screen did not work on the first attempt. Suspecting a faulty part, I re-installed my original screen to confirm. This time however I smelled something burning from the LVDS connector's end towards the logic board. I immediately disconnected the battery and everything stopped. I see the plastic on the clip/hook on the connector little burnt. Also there is tiny spot on the socket. I immediately disconnected the cable from both ends and tested the computer on an external monitor. It worked fine. I booted into the OS and did a proper shutdown. So I think I haven't damaged anything vital on the logic board (i guess, please confirm).

At this point, will replacing the LVDS cable solve my problem? What precaution I should have taken to avoid this kind of incident? The manual did not give any warnings for the LVDS connector.

Is there any chance that I might have damaged either or both the LCDs (new and old) during this? There is no way for me to test that now without the cable.

Update: after looking carefully, it looks like the LVDS socket shorted with the LVDS connector's bracket. The plastic flap on the bracket got burnt. I see the insulation on 2/3 pins of the socket burnt out, exposing the pins.

Is there any way I can verify that there is no damage from the socket side? I'm thinking and replacing the LVDS cable.

omkar, any chance you can post an image that shows the connector and the corroded area a little clearer? Focus straight on your board, not at an angle. Also, what are the last three digits of your serial number? that will allow us to properly identify your computer and logic board. Right now I would hold off on replacing the cable. You may still have to do it, but there could be another reason why it got hot and shorted out. How handy are you with a multimeter and soldering etc? If you are not, do you have any access to somebody that does?

Is there a liquid damage on the logic board? This area with red mark looks to be rusted. If so I would suggest send it to repair center who does logic board repairs.

No, I opened my mac for the first time and was open during the replacement for may be an hour. I don't remember any liquid damage during that period.

well, it looks like some liquid was there before. at least a week or more, that green corrosion does not build immediately.

replacing LCD cable most likely will not help and may make more damage. I suggest to bring this to a logic board repair place. I'm using l2computerinc.com local store here in NYC for this kind of repairs

So are you saying this may not be because of the contact between the connectors clip (which has the burnt plastic on) and the socket pins?
