How can I maximize my G4 unit efficiently?

Our family has a number of Mac products and recently we were given 2 g4 towers. Both of them work fine but they only have an 80gb hard drive, 768mb ram, a 9.2.2 O.S. That's all the info I have for that. My question is what can I do to them? Can I run Snow Leopard if I increase my Ram? How much can i increase the Ram, Hard drive, O.S. Please help.

Thanks

What is mhz? Can I increase it? Where is it in the Computer? I think my sticker says 400mhz but everything has been increased from the sticker so maybe that is bigger I don't know. I'm not tech smart but I'm trying.

I'll give you an easy example, it's the speed of your computer essentially. It stands for megehert(z).The higher the faster the computer. Also, a ghz, gigahert(z) is even faster than a MHz. 1,000MHz makes up 1GHz.

The answer to running snow leopard is no because you need an Intel CPU and yours have G4's. The maximum ram is 1.5GB. The Harddrive is an Ultra-ATA, so it's up to you how much you want to HDD space you want. You CAN run 10.5 but you need at least a G4 running at 867MHz to use 10.5, otherwise you can use 10.4.

The biggest Ultra-ATA hard drives that I have seen are 400GB. The issue is that if your Quicksilvers were made before a certian date, and don't have "Large Drive Support" (Cannot use a partition larger then 128GB) so you will have to partition the disk <128GB if your computer doesn't support it. Also, If you install OS X Leopard (Given you have a fast enough processor) upgrade the RAM to 1GB or more. Leopard's requirements say that it only needs 512MB, but for decent performance with leopard, I reccomend 1GB. on the back of the Mac, there should be a sticker with a barcode, and something that looks somewhat like this "***MHZ/**/****/**/**" (These are the specs from when it left the factory) can you tell me what is there on your mac?

I have a Dually 1 GHz Quicksilver running Leopard. It has 1.5 G of RAM. I also have 3 HD's installed, one is a 1TB SETA (I got an adaptor that allows the SETA to connect to an IDE ribbon). Total GB's is 200 GB, 300 GB and the 1TB, total 1.5 TB.

I have access to all the HD's, not limited in space.

While a bit slow, it does everything I need it to do. Assuming your G4's can use larger HD's, they make great machines.

The dual 1Ghz was the the last revision of the Quicksilver, so it should have "Large drive support." but earlier models (ie. the QS 2001) normally don't support large drives, but it's all in the revision, and Specs. I have a 733Mhz from early 2002, and I'm not sure whether it has LDS or not, since i haven't pulled my 400GB drive from my MDD and tried it.

400mhz/1m cache/ 64mb ram but I have 768 mb ram under "about this mac" these computers were used by graphic designers at a newspaper and I was told they were "modified" but I don't know what that means. Thanks everybody for the info and advice. I really appreciate it.

Can I use parts from anything because I can't find parts on this website (at least I don't know if there are parts that will fit). Will pc parts work and can I change the processor if need be?
