My iPhone5 can't find wifi networks at all. My other Apple devices/iPhones can. I tried to reset the settings and fully restore the iPhone using iTunes with no luck. The on/off button for wifi is working, and I do have a wifi address in the About section. What could it be? Is this a software issue or hardware issue?

Well if you have restored it and checked all settings I would assume its a hardware issue. Its possible the WiFi antenna has come unplugged or has gone bad. If its still under warranty then you could try taking it to apple and they may just replace the phone for you.
If not, or an apple store not near by....Then you should open up the iPhone and make sure the antenna is snug and plugged in on the bottom of the motherboard. If you still can pick up any networks, I would order a replacement antenna and replace it. The antenna itself is a cheap part and isn't a difficult replacement.

I posted this issue almost two years ago and never had a chance to reply here again.
I've tried anything at the time, eventually I opened the iphone and tighten the antenna screw a little. After that everything was working as normal.
Best way to check it is by putting your iphone close to the router. When I did it, I could find my wifi network, and this what made me think that I have an issue in the antenna itself.
I have the same issue. Only get a wifi signal when close to a router. Problem is I can't see a screw to tighten on the wifi antenna. It just seems to stick down in position and plug into the board.
Try without any case or protection on the phone. I had an iPhone case with a small company sticker over the rear top right side and on removing the sticker the phone found all networks without any problem.

I was having this issue too. ATT iPhone 5 purchased in June 2013 and suddenly I couldn't see wireless networks in the menue unless I was sitting on top of the router. Would also lose LTE and/or 4G connection and was on Edge. My battery life was horrible because the phone was always trying to connect to something. Went to both ATT and Apple for help. ATT sent me off to Apple, and Apple had me reset my network settings. I tried that, and the issues continued. I saw on a different forum something about the antennae being in the back of my phone. I had just recently put on an aluminum chrome case that I purchased from eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/400445259608?ssP... 9.l2649). As soon as I removed that case and put back on the plastic one, the connectivity issues are gone. The case must have been blocking the signals. I would recommend removing your case and seeing if the problem improves.

OMG You're right. I spent so much time resetting the phone and network settings. And it turned out to be the case after all! The sec i removed it all networks showed up. Inside my iPhone case there's a film that covers the whole back and it says "protection film for iPhone 5 Do not remove" I wonder why. I'm removing it to see if it was the film that blocked all signals.

1. Switch to flight mode
2. Switch on wifi
3. Reboot
4. Connect wifi, wait for the icon to appear
5. Switch off flight mode
1. go to bluetooth settings and switch on bluetooth
2. wait for the bluetooth icon to come up
3. go to wifi settings and seeif your networks are there.

after this whole time...i gave up and thought about replacing its wifi antenna 1 day.......until today, suddenly decided to google about this wifi problem again...just for fun and not too hopeful...maybe finding out how to replace the antenna by myself or tightening the screw like how i did on my previous iphone 4........and all of a sudden i come across to this %#*@ post...well it looked like stupid ways to fix this wifi problem i've had for how long on my iphone 5......but know that there's nothing more stupid than having this stupid wifi problem...so i did it. and now i dont have to use 3g at home. thank you. Im having the same issue with my iPhone 4s. Actually, this had happened before already. The freezer trick did work, and my wifi was working for almost a year. And now it's doing it again. I tried putting it in the freezer and it didn't work anymore.

so here is what worked for:
you need to go to settings and reset network settings.
then power your phone off.
put your phone on a zip lock back and put it in the freezer for 10-15 min.
then power your phone back up, it should be fixed. It may last a couple of hours first time, so you may need to repeat it.
Also, i have read somewhere that the router security settings (WAP/WAP2, etc) may prevent iphone from connecting to it.

I followed your directions exactly for a 4S. The phone had sent all calls directly to voicemail and wouldn't pick up Wifi network. I stood right next to the router and BINGO! I, of course, had to put in the password, but that was to be expected!!

I had the same problem. I tried the fix that kruhn suggested and it worked! I reset my network settings, (at this point it was still not working), so I powered off and put it in the freezer. When I pulled it out 10 minutes later it searched and found my wi-fi. I had to re-enter the router password. If this does not work for some, and your phone is off warranty, search for a you-tube video about tightening a screw that is under the cover.....
Well, the freezer trick is actually, hilariously, helpful... It did fix my wifi issue, like i mentioned, before... I dont know... Ive read that this has something to do with the over heating wifi chip, that when the temperature drops to a certain level, a threshold or something, then it automatically disables wifi... Makes sense actually, cos when you put it in the freezer, wifi networks become availble for a certain period of time.. And will eventually disconnects once your iphone starts to heat up again... This MIGHT be a quick fix, however this MIGHT ALSO cause serious damage to your phone... But anyways... Im so over it... Its not working until now... So im just gonna get a new phone...
My wife had this problem with the 5s, we could see some networks, but not ours. The fix for us was to turn off the "HIDE SSID" in the router settings.

This is a bug of your network or maybe you just download a new app on your iPhone? If you downloaded an app, try to restart your iPhone and then connect WiFi again.

The freezer method did allow my iphons's wifi to turn on because before my phone's wifi bar was greyed out. However, after I was finally able to turn my wifi on, no networks would show. I tried the suggestion from above about resetting the network and trying the freezer again (having faith since my first problem with wifi was fixed by the freezer method.) I was glad for about 5 minutes when the network came up, but the symbol at the top with the wifi bars quickly changed back to 3G. I was hoping that since it worked for about 5 minutes maybe if I repeat it will fix the problem completely. Unfortunately this was not the case. If anyone please has the answer to this it would be greatly appreciated. I am desperate to fix this and will try anything.

i Have tried resetting network settings? Try to reset it first then i put iphone on airplane mode... Then turn your phone off for about an hour... Then restart it the problem but it doesn't work, my iphone 5 wi-fi network

Quick Tips for Wi-Fi Not Working on iPhone or iPad
1) Check your Wi-Fi Router
2) Make Sure Wi-Fi is on And You can See Your Network
3) Check All of Your Cables and Connections

I have the same problem with my iphone4s.. It can't detect any wifi while other phones can. This already happened to me before and i fixed it by turning the device off for 1 minute. I tried this thing several times and it didn't help. Is there any idea how to fix it? (Except the one 'put it in the freezer')
