LCD suddenly stopped working during use.

Hi

So i was using my Macbook pro, mid 2009 13in model and all of a sudden the screen died on me. No real warning, no colored lines to prepare me, just shut off.

Now the computer runs fine, and will connect and show via external display, BUT the computer will not recognize its own display, it just shows the external. Also the apple logo doesnt light up on the computer either

I bought a new LCD screen thinking the LCD just died, but it wasnt it and still doesnt work Now I am at a bit of a loss as to what it should be. Maybe the connectors? Did a fuse blow? The connectors themselves look fine physically, but I dont know if they could be it

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

ok new updates! it wasnt the LVDS cable...I installed the new one and that didn't fix the backlight issue. so a new LCD and LVDS cable are out! Got a multimeter and checked the fuse mentioned by OT and it gave me a reading of 30.1 on the 2000k ohms dial. Im not a big electrical guy but from my understanding that means that the fuse is functioning. if I am right, does that mean it is the wled driver then?

I have a friend that is skilled at this type of soldering, I just dont know where to find the part. ebay was no luck.

Yes, there is a fuse on the logic board, but you could had other issues here. Can you give us the last three digits of your serial number so we can correctly identify your system.

Do you get video onscreen but no lightning or nothing at all ?

Hi,

I get nothing at all. I can connect to an external display just fine, but even there the computer doesnt recognize its own LCD.

And the serial digits are 366E. Let me know if there is anything else I can offer

Deeba Yavrom, this is not a real answer, but I did this so as to post an image with it. Try to angle a light source i.e. a flashlight against the display. Just to ensure it is not just your backlight that is out. It may give you the impression that the screen is not showing anything. I think the key for this is the dark Apple Logo. The illuminated Apple is lit by the LCD backlight. This of course does not exclude the LVDS cable, but also does not rule out a damaged fuse or WLED driver. How handy are you with a multimeter to check some of the components? Check the fuse for continuity and see what you get. Cheapest way and easiest would be to start off with a new cable. Usual disclaimer is that I am not a Mac person, but I think I am starting to get the hang of it :-) the real experts here are Mayer, lemerise and Dan.

hey oldturkey03. great advice! ...i did put a light the screen and do see the video input, obviously it is very very dark though. i really had no idea so I am glad you mentioned that tip! I will test the fuse tomorrow, meanwhile the LVDS cable should arrive on Tuesday for me to replace that. if it isnt the cable, it must be the fuse then yeah?

It could be the fuse, or the WLED driver (which would be a royal PITA) to fix.

If there was no liquid involved in the issue it would be surprising that the backlight fuse could be blown. In this case the screen panel could be faulty but it's a good trouble step to check the fuse first. @oldturkey....you're surely qualified as one of the experts on this forum :-)

I agree on both points with Lemerise - Fuses don't go unless something shorted and OT you're selling your sell short here ;-} You know your stuff!

There is a Apple TN on this problem on the '10 15" models MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010) - Intermittent black screen or loss of video

Could you be facing the same thing on the 13"?

I would recommend taking it into an Apple Store for an estimate. This is a difficult repair.
