Ipad 3 modem chip
Hi,
I would appreciate if someone tell me which modem is used in iPad 3. I mean full chip specification. Google does not know correct answer.
Thanks in advance.
The term Modem is generically used for a device that converts from one method to another method of transmission (Modulate - Demodulate).
Technically, the iPad doesn't have such a device. What the iPad has is a combo transmitter / receiver chip:
Broadcom BCM4330 802.11a/b/g/n MAC/baseband/radio with integrated Bluetooth 4.0+HS and FM transceiver
While you can configure the iPad to act as a modem to tie-in a WiFi device to it's cellar connection to share it (just like you can do with your iPhone) or your bluetooth headset to your Skype connection over a cellar connection. It does not have a separate chip for this function.

Oleg, take a look at the teardown on here. It does list all the IC's used. You can then identify the specs by the manufacturer.
Get the Datasheet for the BCM4330 from here. I attached the schematic showing the pinout of the IC on the iPad. Hope this helps.

iPad 3 cellular version does have a MDM9600 data modem. Technically it is called baseband. It is a standalone system-on-chip that handles cellular protocols, signal processing, GPS etc. it is relatively independent from the rest of the device. It has its own PCB, PM chip and firmware.
