I have replaced my 500 GB internal time capsule Drive with a 2 TB SATA drive. The Time Capsule will start and show the amber light for about 20 to 30 seconds before turning off. Once I replaced the 2 TB hard drive with the original 500 GB hard drive everything starts as normal. The new hard drive works when connected through USB to the computer. I have tried a hard reset and the Time Capsules still will not boot past the amber light

The new drive requires too much power, or, your power source is getting ready to fail.
That sequence would normally indicate a failing power supply, whats happening is that when the hard disk attempts to spin up the current demand on the power supply peaks. If the the power supply in poor condition, it will not be able to supply sufficient current, so the box shuts itself off. Unplug and replugging may get it to work temporarily but eventually it will do the same thing.. eventually of course it won't work at all.
Depending upon the age of the box (you used a generic ID so I don't know what year/rev it is) it could be that the unit is about to fail, or, you need an HD with a power requirement similar to your OEM drive.
