Help! External HDD partiton recovery

Well, a few months back I had to sell my 2008 iMac (C2D w/ Snow Leopard) because I was moving to somewhere 3.000 miles away. No biggie, I had everything on my 3tb external HDD and I can always buy another Mac.

Which I did, I bought a Powerbook G4 1,67ghz since I was on a budget and needed a laptop.

The thing is, once I tried to use Tiger to repartition my external HDD like I used to do with Snow Leopard, it's partition table got screwed up! After some reading on the web I found out Tiger's partition scheme is different but it was too late.

So I tried some demos I've downloaded for this task and one of them asked for me to reformat the HDD. Why not, a quick reformat won't really erase anything as long as I don't rewrite it and restore it's partition, right?

Well, that app didn't restore anything and now I have a blank 3tb HDD...

Since then (almost a month now!) I've been trying anything I can get a demo of the web: Stellar, iPartition, DiskDrill, Disk Warrior, TechTool, Data Rescue, FileSalvage, Yodot, etc. None seems to do what I want, which is to restore my partition table.

I even tried Test Disk, GParted and some Windows alternatives like Partition Guru, Data Recovery HFS+ and like the others I tried on my Mac the closest I got was to recover the files, but I don't have a 3tb HDD to backup the first one - some apps did recover it raw, but I don't even know what to do with 2tb of raw data.

Anyway, what I want is to recover my HDD's partition table like it was before all of this, any suggestion?

And why is it so hard to do with HFS+? Some 10 years back I had a similar accident with my Windows desktop and could undo it in a matter of hours including the time I spent looking for answers on the web...

Got here because I ran into a similar problem again (this time my drive is on MBR and I want it to be GUID - nothing was lost and no issues occurred) so I came here looking for what helped me in the past and found nothing.

So to help whoever might come across this thread, this is what helped me: https://perrohunter.com/repair-a-mac-os-...

Hi...

Don't worry, for every problem their is a solution. When I am resizing the partitions accidentally I pressed delete option this leads to deletion partition. Thus I lost so valuable data from partition.

While searching about how to recover HDD partition, I come across a utility called HDD Partition Recovery]. Unbelievable!!! I got my partition back by this software.

Hi, as u know the file structure is written on the partition table. So for u to successfully get all ur files back u need a hard disk which is equal to what u have now. Unfortunately there is no other way to do this. Delete the 2tb of raw data, which cant be decoded because of fragmentation. Good luck.

I didn't mess around with it, I tried to repartition and it got screwed, then I reformatted it once and leave it alone, no files recorded there anymore.

Everything else I did was to 'search' it's partition directories, but never committed any change they were supposed to make...

But yeah, I think I was the one who got screwed in this one... :S

The function of an external hard drive is the same as internal hard drive, so its construction is also similar to normal hard drive. That means it can be separated into many disk partitions by writing partition information into partition table.

The partition table could be damaged by corruption, virus, false-operation, incorrect manipulation, hardware problems, etc. Then you may lose the external hard drive partition and also the valuable data stored on them. Besides, delete partitions unintentionally is also a reason of partition loss. Is it possible to recover external hard drive partition and retrieve the data stored on them? Of course yes, the only thing you need is partition recovery software.

Many external HDD owners find the notion of a portable drive an exciting and useful prospect and indeed it is. However one has to consider that because such technology is portable and can be taken from place to place then there is scope for problems occurring because of its ability to be moved. As one might damage inadvertently a USB stick so to might one damage an external HDD.

And even without damaging the drive it will over time Data Recovery From External Hard Drive degrade just as any hard drive will, especially if it is subject to a lot of heavy duty usage. Noticeable signs that your drive is degrading include slower than normal load and write times as well as occasional drop outs which render the drive invisible to the operating system's directory tree.

Take the HDD out of the enclosure and plug directly into the main board. See if you can access it then.

It looks like your only route is professional data recovery like uFlysoft:

Step 1. Launch the software to scan the device where your files deleted

Step 2: Preview the scan result files and make mark if it is the one you find

Step 3: Recover files
