Do I have to change the gasket?

I have a cracked glass on my iPad 2 wi-fi and I am going to change it. I have replaced this on another device before so I am familiar to the steps on how to do it.

My iPad got a pretty bad dent in the aluminum which I will have to modify.

I read this post http://blog.missionrepair.com/2011/10/11...

and they recommend to change the gasket to keep the dust from coming into the display.

Would you say that is necessary judging from my pictures?

No you will not have to change the gasket, it looks in good condition. Getting the aluminium body back in shape will be a difficult job.

Let us know how it went.

This is not the gasket, just a plastic bezel. Pry the glass carefully, the bezel should be reusable.

The original LCD gaskets are 2 L-shaped foam tapes. They are inevitably torn during disassembly and very hard to find on the market.

Notice the detail of the original ones. The ends match perfectly and there is a curve for the home button.
