Before you remove the battery you have to carefully disconnect the battery connector from the connector on the logic board. Be real careful here or your iPhone will never function again. Once this is carefully and safely disconnected you can then remove the battery. Apple uses a lot of double sided adhesive around the periphery of the battery bottom. Start carefully prying from the case side of the battery, below and away from the side buttons. You do not want to pry from the Logic Board side ever, from this side you can use the clear plastic pull tab, but only use the pull tab once the case side is lifted up. Again on the case side do not go near or damage near the buttons, sensitive flex cables are exposed here and can be easily damaged. Insert a thin wide pry tool along and under the case side of the battery and carefully and slowly pry it up. (I do not recommend this, but I use a the non-blade side of a square razor blade for my thin wide pry tool). Go very slow, when case side is up, then use pull tab to help with Logic Board side. Look underneath when you can, because the wrapper of the battery will peel off if you are not careful. If this happens go slow and release the battery wrapper bit by bit. In some repair jobs the battery removal step can be the hardest. Be careful.
