Why is my fan making a surging sound?
My iMac is making a continuous surging fan sound. Also, It does not shut down properly. I have to hold the power button to shut down. The fan surging sound continues even after forced shut down.

Sounds like your power supply is faulty....the fan should stop when the computer is off.

Thanks Jeff,
I suspected that this might be the case since, I've had several power outages. I only have a surge protector, but am about to invest in a good countinuous power supply.
Do I need to take my iMac to an authorized dealer to have the power supply replaced?
