Sounds like there's something obstructing your R button, so a cleaning should fix that. ZL, on the other hand, won't be so easy. Someone probably tried to open the friction fit connector near the circle pad and broke it, (***DON'T*** try to do that) so now ZL bumps the cable and causes a short. If it still has some clamping power, I've heard you can wedge something like paper in there to hold the cable down, otherwise the connector probably has to be replaced
