Sounds like the new DVD disc is faulty or a type of disc that may not be officially supported by the player(s).

Not working correctly on two players makes it appear as though the new DVD disc is faulty.
Have you checked the surface of the new disc to ensure that there are no scratches and that it is clean etc, you didn't say?
