The contacts may be damaged, although i don't know why it still plays ds games, maybe because the ds games file sizes are so small (New Super Mario Bros for DS is 32MB) compared ti the 3ds games (MarioKart7 is approx 600MB) the contacts may not be able to withstand the high write speed needed, the game slot may need to be replaced
