Just installed an iFixit battery in a 5S, and phone wouldn't charge. Showed that it was hooked up and charging, but battery percent just kept slowly dropping. The problem was that the iFixit replacement battery had no insulation on the back of the connector, so I assume that voltage was just bleeding off to ground via the metal cover that goes over the connector. Removed the metal cover, put a small piece of friction tape on top of the battery connector, replaced cover and reassembled phone, and it's now charging correctly.
