Can't get my golf cart to operate unless I bypass

I bought an old ezgo medalist it needed new batteries so I bought new batteries installed them but the cart want run I took a jumper and temporarily jumpers across from the positive side of the battery to f&d switch the cart will work fine any ideals on possible problems
