Switch Pro Controller: Switch Pro Controller right analog stick drifting in game

As the title says, the pro controller right analog stick is registering some slight drift in game even though the stick itself is in the neutral position. It doesn’t happen all the time, and usually stops when I correct it, but it is definitely annoying and I’d like to fix it if possible. Anyone else have this issue? Thanks in advance!

Switch Pro Controller: Left Joystick Switch Pro Controller gets stuck/jammed un up-right pos.

Hello! I have a kind of annoying problem.

My Switch Pro Controller works fine, calibration-wise its perfect. The thing is in the mechanical aspect. The left Joystick gets physically stuck when I move it to the uprigh or upleft position.

I live in Ecuador so there is no official Nintendo Repair shop here so I opened it myself (have done this with other consoles and controllers) to see if there was some dust inside or any material preventing it to return and there was nothing. I came to realise that is was a problem with the stick itself connected to the controller motherboard... aparently it gets jammed, maybe some of the moving plastic are making too much friction with each other.

The question is. Is there anything I can do? because the part is sodered to the mainboard so there's no way I'm equipped to take it out, nor would I want to do that. Maybe there is a way to make the plastic get unstuck. When I pressure the stick down, but not down enough to trigger the joystick button press it moves quite fine.

Any help or comment would be apreciated!

Thanks!

Update (07/09/2018)

As a new piece of info, I opened it again and heard a clicking sound when i push the stick. Seems to be a very tight fit between the plastics. The right joystick doesn't do that sound.

I am going to try using a blower at some point to see if there is something stuck in there

Switch Pro Controller: Pro Controller Seemingly Dead, with no signs of life

Hello everyone, I’ve been at this for a couple of weeks now and unfortunately I’m still left with a dead pro controller, I’m hoping to get this working soon and its been frustrating not knowing what to do. For context, I disassembled the controller to test a broken minus button, and upon reassembly it stopped taking battery power, then stopped taking any power at all. I could have definitely shorted or knocked something off the board, but nomatter what caused it I want to try my hardest to fix it. Hopefully someone here can help me.

Here’s what I know about the pro controller and the status of it:

The battery works fine

The ribbon cable and front button assembly is fine (This and the battery are not required for the controller to turn on)

When plugged into my charger that lights up when connected, the light does not turn on, so the board isn’t taking any power.

The rumble motors are disconnected right now, though I don’t see how that would cause it to not power on (I’ll try to reconnect them to test)

EDIT: The power cable going from the battery board to the main board seems to be connected fine

EDIT 2: there is no documentation online for this thing, so I decided to do some of my own investigation. I saw another reddit post that had a similar issue as mine, where it had no signs of life, and narrowed it down to being a short to ground on the charging chip (32LP052). I have yet to test this myself, but it is another clue

Unfortunately, there is limited documentation on the pro controller so it is hard to find any reference on what to troubleshoot for or what components to test, so hopefully some of you out there know something I can try to get it working again. I would love the help and it would mean so much for me

Switch Pro Controller: Can I buy just this part for my broken Pro Controller Joystick?

Hey there, so my left analog stick on my pro controller physically gets stuck and dosent bounce back after moving to in a direction. I took it apart and believe I found the cause.

This little gray piece seems to be missing from the left stick (I havent cleaned it yet, sorry for the grossness): https://imgur.com/a/T52txDJ

Now I would have assumed that this piece was somewhere loose in the controller but I can't find it anywhere, and nothing fell out when I took it apart. Seems weird to me that it could have somehow wiggled out of the controller at any point because it isn't THAT small. Maybe I'm just blind.

Anyway, was hoping someone might be able to point me to a replacement piece, because while I know how to solder, I don't really WANT to replace the whole joystick, plus don't have the money for the replacement.

Update (05/09/23)

Alright, so ultimately since you can't seem to buy just that part, I bought $10 replacement sticks and just took that part off one of them. It just popped right out easy peasy. When snapping it into my original joystick however, while it fit perfectly, the joystick was lifting it up. Leads me to believe it wasn't actually the gray piece that failed but something to do with the casing of the joystick?

Anyway, I took some gorilla glue and a sewing needle and very carefully applied a small amount of glue underneath the gray piece as well as along its sides. Held it firmly in place for about 2 minutes and it stayed. I then applied a little more glue to the top of the little bracket.

Seems to have worked! We'll see if the glue stands the test of time though and keeps the piece in it's proper place!

Switch Pro Controller: Odd right stick behavior after water damage repair

My daughter dropped my pro controller in the bathtub as I was filling it. I disassembled it, dried it, left it in rice overnight, and reassembled. I dry fit and tested it and it luckily worked fine with a left stick calibration. Once I fully reassembled through I had a right stick problem. It seems like it just needs calibration (just a bit off and pushes down) but when I go to calibrate I can’t. The “pre-screen” that shows stick movement does register all 4 directions even though they are off a bit and push down, but when I push X to calibrate and get to that screen, it doesn’t register that I’m pushing the stick left as instructed and I can’t get further.

I’ve reopened it, removed the control stick knobs, cleaned with alcohol and compressed air and reassembled. I’ve also tried disassociated the controller with the switch and re-pairing. But I get the same result.

Clearly it sees the stick moving in the various directions so I’m at a loss as to why I can’t attempt the recalibration and my efforts aren’t getting me anywhere.

Anyone have some advice for me? This is the limited edition TotK one and I really want to preserve it!

Switch Pro Controller: Are these ripped pads? Can I fix them?

Hi there!

Decided to pickup a new hobby this year, electronics repair! I'm a noob. This switch pro controller had a drift stick problem, only a minor drift stick issue. I unsoldered the stick and put a new one on, but the drift stick is now worse. No matter what joystick I put on, the behaviour of the drift is EXACTLY the same. As you can see in the image below, i think there are some ripped pads. If it's even possible, how can I fix this? Or is there a work around with the soldering iron that I can perform to get this controller functional? Thanks!

Switch Pro Controller: Controller is not charging, and has no signs of life

Hey everyone,

A while ago I had a switch pro controller completely shut off on me, it no longer responds to the sync button, and the light that indicates charging no longer works either. I have been racking my brain trying to get this thing to work and I can’t seem to find anything that sticks. I have tried changing the batteries, changing the ribbon cables and using a different board for the buttons but nothing can get it to come back to life. The only thing I haven’t done yet is replacing the motors (the small ribbon cables for the motors ripped), but that shouldn’t be a problem if my issue is that no power goes to the board. I have yet to see if reflowing the charging chip will help, but I’m not comfortable enough with a hot air gun to do that anyway yet.

If anyone here has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.
