Mac Mini Mid 2011: Logic Board upgrade to M1 (I hope, I hope...)

I see that Apple has listed several logic boards w/ the M1 chip in them for the Mac Mini. I have a model A1347 from mid-2011 and wonder if I can purchase an M1 logic board and upgrade? Ideally, I’d like the 661-16785 w/ 8-core M1, 16GB and a 1TB drive with 1gb ethernet. Just don’t know if it is possible. Also don’t see the newly listed logic boards on the ifixit store yet.

Mac Mini Mid 2011: Not starting and Logic board debug

My a1347 Mac Mini has been turned off for a few years and now it will not start. When I press the power button the fan goes on for a second, the light goes on for about a second too and it makes some sort of sound. The sound is not the fan as I also hear it with the fan disconnected and I have some distant memory of that the sound always there on start.

I have checked that the power supply gives 11.8V on all 4 pairs as of this guide so it appears to not be the problem. Complete Dead - How To Check Power Supply Vs Logic Board

So now I am rightly of wrongly looking at the logic board. I have read in a few other forums of failing capacitors near the power supply on Macs. Can someone point out where in the photos these might be? Other ideas of where/what to check and how are also appreciated.

So now I have the original 2 GB stick on the bottom slot and a 8GB module on the top slot. The computer is working and it says it has 10GB of Ram.

Mac Mini Model A1283: How to disable HD temperature sensor Mac Mini 2009

I just broke off the temperature sensor cable of the HD SATA board when putting in an SSD. It really looked like a spudgeable thingy, yet it wasn’t.

The sensor should be no longer relevant, but the system now thinks it is a Nuclear Power Plant core and turns the fans to a zillion RPM.

So my question is: how to fool OSX to think this sensor IS NOT THERE in the first place, and taken out of the equition to calculate the fan speed. No problem to Hex Edit some kext files.

Options I consider no solution are:

Installing MacFanControl. I did that, it helps a tiny bit, but only from 10 seconds after boot.

Connecting the 2 pins on the SATA board with some conducting material. It does not work.

Mac Mini Late 2012: Late 2012 Mac mini doesn't see 840 Pro SSD after wiping/reformatting

Late 2012 Mac mini (Macmini6,2) system

In `15 I got the iFixit kit to add a second drive SSD to my 1TB HDD. I configured as boot drive/Yosemite and used HDD as storage volume (kept Mavericks on HDD) put SSD in bottom/boot slot.

Worked great til Safari issue led me to reinstall Yosemite which somehow merged both drives into a logical Fusion booting from HDD with endless performance struggles. DU reports find no issues so wiped/reformatted SSD: GUID/Journaled file system as before, but OS Installer still says Yosemite can’t be installed, plus HDD can’t be updated.

I then removed the SSD and wiped/reformatted it on MacBook Air (using a USB/SATA cable) but it still rejects OS Installation.

Put back in the Mac mini but now SSD doesn’t mount/show up at all including Disk Warrior?!

Wiped/reformatted HDD and finally got Mavericks online install & Yosemite from DVD but won’t allow any further updates; El Capitan, High Sierra, etc. SSD still MIA.

How do I wipe/reset Mac mini BIOS/EFI. Same re the HDD & SSD to exorcise demons preventing normal op? How about Terminal command drive utility that will return drives to original status? How does ‘bless’ work can I do it if I have command set & syntax?

Mac Mini Model A1283: Apple Install Disk versus Ubuntu EFI

Trying to upgrade the disk in the mini I ran into a problem. It seems that if Ubuntu is installed first, the Apple Install disk isn’t even seen as a bootable disk. Using Alt to invoke the boot manager, only the Ubuntu/EFI partition showed. Just as a band aid I grabbed a new disk and installed it. Then the Apple Install was bootable and the install went smoothly.

How do I get rid of the Boot Manager Ubuntu installed so I can put Apple OS on that disk ? Now if I had a drive enclosure then I’d put it in there and use Disk Utility, but I don’t. Nor do I have a two disk system except an older Mac Pro that might run OS 9.

Mac Mini Late 2012: Can’t see startup disk selection when connected to non-Apple monitor

I’m trying to resurrect an old Mac Mini (late 2012). When I connect it to my Dell monitor (U3415W) while holding down the Option key, the screen stays black. I don’t see the Apple logo and the same thing happens when I try to go in to recovery mode. Only if I let it boot all the way does the screen finally “turn on” and show something. I’ve tried connecting both HDMI and Display Port with the same results. However, if I connect it my friends old Apple Thunderbolt display, I see the Apple logo and I’m able to see the startup disk selector, recovery options, etc.

My question is: to remove it I need a Torx T6 screwdriver with a hollow point or the Torx T6 with a flat tip will work for me. From what I have read, that the hollow point Torx are called Precision Torx or are identified with an "H" after the number in this case: "T6H". The same query is to remove the cover where the WiFi is, should I use a Torx T8 hollow point or does the flat point work for me? From now on I thank you get me out of this doubt, before doing something wrong. Thank you very much and greetings.

Mac Mini Late 2014: M2 SSD upgrade not recognized

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to install an M.2 SSD on my Mac mini, in addition to its 1TB HDD.

I have purchased this adapter: https://pt.aliexpress.com/item/400016101...

And installed it myself. I heard and felt a “click” when plugging it on the Mac Mini, which I thought might be normal.

After rebooting the Mac mini, “ > System information” does not show the NVMe drive, neither does PCI or anything else. There's only the default HDD that comes with the system, but my SSD doesn't show. Disk Utility can't see it either.

The SSD is a WD Green 240GB M.2 2280 SATA III 6Gbps.

I have a gaming PC which recognizes the SSD and is able to format it. I was also able to install Windows on this SSD. Can anyone help me? Thank you!

Update: Apparently the adapter I purchased only works with M-key SSDs. My SSD is a B+M key or something like that. :( I wasn't planning on purchasing another SSD…

I took out both memory modules and it still wouldn’t boot. I also disassembled the unit––there doesn’t seem to be any visual damage to the logic board. I also tested the power supply, and I’m getting a proper 11.8V across the leads according to this post:

Are there any other diagnostics I can check before I can say it’s positively the logic board that died? Is it possible the power button itself is broken?
