MacBook Pro 16" 2019: I changed display: computer lags, fans roar, battery status is missing

Recently completed the manual (on German) to change the display on my MBP step by step. No difficulties encountered. The new display comes from an ebay-shop with lots of positive feedback and was tested. In fact, it works just as intented, incl. camera.

And yet the laptop does not work as usual. First time it took ages until it could load the log-in screen. And it didn't got better afterwards either. The "SYMPTOMS" include:

very long response time to basic commands such as close the tab or move the cursor;

battery status is not shown - neither on the tab nor in settings; I suppose the computer does not "see" it;

fans start to work at full speed as soon as I open the lid and continue like this - no matter the task - and albeit MBP is not even warm.

That's it. I've got to say that I didn't exchange the battery. The only way I came into contact with it is at a step where the battery power connector is disconnected (and then connected); and the same with the battery board data cable.

I've read here and there about those "symptoms" and it seems that (1) working slowly with (2) fans at full speed albeit no need to cool the computer down indicates that my MBP is running in a safe mode. Well, I would like to know whether you guys think this too.

Where could have I done sth. wrong in the assembly to cause this behavior? Or what else could be the reason?

After going through the manual (MacBook Pro (16 Zoll, 2019) Display tauschen - iFixit Reparaturanleitung) again I believe to have narrowed down the list of possible causes to just four connections that might not sit just right:

1. Display board flex cable (German: Flachbandkabel; step no. 19)

2. Antenna cables (Antennenkabel; steps no. 22-23)
3. Battery board data cable (Akkuplatinen-Datenkabel; steps no. 11-14)

4. Battery power connector (Akkustrom Stecker; steps no. 15-16)

But I don't want to disassemble the computer just yet, bcs. I am still not sure whether the cause is not sth. else, e.g. faulty display (item) or I broke sth. else during the process. So who knows what the cause of the behavior described might be? And how to fix it.

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Late 2013: Where should 923-0238 Phillips #0 go?

After attemping the I/O board replacement, I have one Phillips left, and couldn't find a place. It is suppoed to be 923-0238, which is suppoed to go to spot No. 1.

Both my laptop and online guides can't give me any idea about where the Phillips screw should go.

MacBook Pro 13" Retina Display Early 2015: I knocked the C1060 capacitor while removing heatsink. What to do?

Hello,

I wanted to try my hand at replacing the thermal compound, which was looking very crusty, on my old MacBook Pro. It was my first time, so I was quite prepared for any mistakes I might make. I was doing it for the experience.

As I removed the heatsink, I pulled it sideways rather than up, knocking it against the capacitor below the CPU.

After doing some dugging, I found out that it's the C1060 capacitor. See the boardview below and the relevant extract from the schematics.

The computer works. I ran Cinebench, and the kernel didn't panic or anything. I assume it's a matter of luck.

I am considering whether to buy a heatgun myself or give it to a professional. A heatgun costs around 80€. I have asked a local professional for a quotation.

Does anyone have any insight into this problem, any recommendations? Should I take it to a professional to get it fixed? Is it worth fixing? Is it worth buying the equipment to try and do it myself?

MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Early 2011: MacBook Pro 2011, I replaced the logic board but can't get it to work

Hello

I have a Macbook Pro from early 2011 and I had problems with the video, I took it to a technician to reball it and it supposedly worked, at the same time it failed again and this time they told me they had changed the video chip.

In the end, it failed again and when I took it to repair it again it did not work again.

I finally bought a used logic board in china and was able to successfully install it as a replacement for the deceased one.

But I have the following problems:

1 The battery or battery charger does not work so the fans run at full speed.

2 I was able to get it to boot but it does not recognize the SSD.

3 I put the original hard disk (unfortunately it had been used for a windows pc) and tried to install different versions of OS

- Yosemite USB installation (failure to finish preloading the USB, the computer restarts and the installation begins again)

- Installation via USB of El Capitan (failure to finish preloading the USB similar to Yosemite) but then I was able to install it with "Clover" and the installable image of El Capitan. The installation was successful but when the mac tries to start it reboots before finishing the progress bar with the apple at the start. This installation only works failsafe and I cannot start the diagnostic mode (D, cmd + D, option + D) nor the recovery mode (R, command + R)

- Recovery using time machine, since I have a copy of High Sierra, I recovered the complete installation but the behavior is the same. Fails to start unless in safe mode.

- Currently installing a minor version (mountain Lion) install the first stage, restart and start installing the second stage. it always restarts after 30% and starts again.

4 In the El Capitan version I uninstalled the drivers for the dedicated video card, hoping that was the problem, but I never got it to boot normally.

I also did all the possible updates and only the installation of "MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.7" fails because when the Mac restarts to do the update, it restarts again and again and only continues in safe mode. when I look for if something needs to be updated, "MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.7" reappears

Please if you can tell me what steps to follow or some guide would be saving me.

I am in Argentina and the prices to take this equipment to an official service are exorbitant and unreliable.

Update (08/31/2021)

Hi @danj , you really blew my mind!

First of all thanks for your help and advice, in my many searches I found many of your contributions and they were always very helpful.

I read quite a bit about it and to try and rule out that this was the problem and did the following:

Using my other computer (macbook pro early 2013) and internet recovery I installed mountain lion on a 16Gb pendrive. I put it in the macbook pro 2011 and by pressing option I told it to boot from it.

To my surprise and for the first time it managed to start!

I even managed to install the update "EFI Firmware Update 2.7" ...

My joy ceased when it rebooted for no reason while trying to install the Safari update. (started downloading update and failed)

The mac rebooted again and while loading the OS it rebooted again! This behavior persists as long as a reboot failure occurs and I think I manage to stop this reboot cycle when I hold the power button and turn on again while pressing the option key to choose usb as startup.

As you had indicated to me that the cable could be the cause of the failure. Disconnect the hard drive cable from the logic board. I started again and it rebooted again :( again trying to update Safari.

Just in case, also disconnect the cable from the optical drive.

With both units disconnected it continues to fail.

Currently, it only has a 16 Gb USB as a hard drive.

Since I couldn't update Safari, I downloaded Chrome and managed to install it.

But as soon as I want to start Chrome and the icon starts jumping on the dock while loading, it restarts again ...

Here's my suspicion: Could this be a matter of memory? Currently, it has two 4Gb memories and before doing all these tests I had changed them for two 2Gb and it also failed.

Update (09/02/2021)

Here it is the report I got booting into safe mode

MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015: Battery Level dropping from 60% to 7% instantly

Hi!

This is the second time I’ve replaced my battery with an ifixit battery and this is the second time this issue has came up. After replacing the battery and running the calibration cycle, I would use my laptop on its battery and somewhere around 70%-60% battery level, the battery level would just shoot down to 7%.

Initially on the first time around with replacing the battery, I just figured they sent me a faulty battery, but didn’t have time to buy another one and change it out, so i lived with the power adapter. I finally had a chance to replace it to a new battery, but the same thing just happened. Now, Im hoping to find some answers from you all if I have another faulty battery or some other insight on what it might can be.

Appreciate whatever insight provided!

Battery Terminal & Data PORT. On my MacBook Pro 16” M1 Max, snapped off or broke off when putting in new battery and I believe that was the reason why the battery it was not being recognized by the board because of the logic board connector,

I’m in desperate need for someone who can help me fix or find the parts name or number

(Battery Terminal & Data PORT)

because I’ve tried, can’t find or get anything

MacBook Pro 13" Two Thunderbolt Ports 2019: MacBook Pro A2159 new battery not working but old battery does

I recently replaced the battery in my MacBook Pro A2159. The new battery is not working (the laptop won't turn on), but when I reinstall the old battery, the laptop works perfectly fine.

I have already:

1. Transferred the battery board data cable and ensured it is seated correctly in the ZIF connectors.

2. Verified that the T5 power connector pancake screw is snug and making a good connection.

3. Performed an SMC reset.

4. Tried leaving it on the charger to wake it from a potential deep sleep state.

Everything is snug and tight, but the new battery still shows no signs of life. Is there anything else I should check, or is it likely a defective part?
