Asus Chromebook C213SA-YS02: Devices won't turn on unless plugged in.

Hi, I work in a school district that uses ASUS C203X-YS02-GR chromebooks (this model wasn't an option for this question). A substantial number of these models will not turn on normally. You have to plug in the chargers for them to boot, and when it does, the battery is almost always full. Any ideas on how to resolve this? It's inconvenient for our students.

Asus Chromebook Flip C100P: Replacement screen assemblies for c100p the same as for c101p?

Replacement of the screen assembly (LCD+touchscreen glass) for the c100pa is a pretty simple procedure and is documented on YouTube and elsewhere (though, oddly, not here in iFixit). And, the c100pa screen assemblies - new and used - are readily available on eBay.

On the other hand, screen assemblies for the c101pa - an updated model that Asus issued a couple years later - are impossible to find. Does anyone know if they take the same 10.1 inch screen used by the earlier model? Maybe there are no screens for the c101p because it uses the same screen? I would sure like to hear from someone who knows before I take the plunge. Thanks!

Asus Chromebook C204EE: Unable to boot abnormal voltage with battery

Hello everyone,

I have been helping out my local schools by repairing the chromebooks they use for students. I mostly do solder work on the boards since they are becoming harder and more $$$ to find. Several have come in with the same issue.

Off the battery the USB-C port reads 5 volts for an instant then jumps to 14.9-15 volts low fluctuating amps...this is normal. The problem comes in when the battery is plugged in. The volts stay at 5v, but the amps raise to normal charging 2.85amps. The device will not boot. The odd thing to me is that some spots on the board around the battery get 12+ volts....

Could this signify a "brain" issue (CPU, RAM, NAND, BIOS) more than a power issue?

Any reply is appreciated!

Asus Chromebook Flip C100P: Cracked screen making it hard to use.

I have a pretty big crack in my screen....no dead pixels, but it's making the touch screen go crazy. I can hardly use the chromebook even in laptop mode because the screen will flicker and open random things as if someone is going crazy on the touchscreen.

I looked into ordering the screen repair kit but found it was almost as expensive as a new chromebook. So my question is, is there a way I can just disable the touchscreen function? I don't mind only using it in laptop mode.

Asus Chromebook: Asus C213 - power led keeps blinking - system does not turn on

Picked up a refurbished Asus C213SA to start testing Linux integration with ChromeOS as this laptop is on the approved list from Google. This is a Chromebook with soldered on eMMC and 4Gb of RAM. I charged the system overnight and the power led turned orange indicating it was charging when all of a sudden the light blinked white for a second, I did not think much of it and went to bed. This morning I was sure the system would have been charged but the led still shows orange and the power led is now blinking one long white, one short white and then turns back to orange. When pressing Refresh+ESC+Power the screen shows that ChromeOS is missing. I created a recovery USB for the REEF F2B-C4Q laptop (which shows up correctly) and recovery was successfully created. Recovery also is successful and upon removing the USB the system reboots but goes back to the blinking lights. For some reason, if my memory serves me well, the system is not able to initiate the eMMC drive, yet when I look at the output on VT3 it shows the system is restoring properly, so it does find the internal drive but does not want to boot. I am at a loss, other than sending the unit back to exchange.

I work in education, and I’ve noticed this happen on multiple student devices. It’s a common issue on C213 devices as well. I’m not entirely sure it’s the network card, as we’ve swapped network cards out before and the issue returns weeks later. I’ve powerwashed and reloaded Chrome OS, but it doesn’t appear to be a software issue. I’ve also noticed that reseating the network card fixes the issue for at least a few days if not a few months, but the Chromebooks always come back with the same issue.

Has anyone dealt with this before? How do you go about repair?

Thanks!
